How to use Apple News

Unknown

I’ve been using Apple News quite a bit. I like it. I am, however, a power user of Feedly.

The Loop posted a link to an article about how to use Apple News. Nice article though the font face used on the site is a bit small for me. Thank goodness for ‘command-+’.

I thought that this was an interesting idea:

In fact I’m hoping that Apple bring News to the desktop in the next version of OS X.

See the article here

A Penton Mudlark

Here it is. The tank, seat and number plate are elsewhere but you can see the tires and frame as well.

A jigsaw puzzle. I’m going to inventory everything, purchase the necessary manuals and then, slowly, get started.

The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and starting on the first one. – attributed to Mark Twain

As always, very true.

The TimesMachine – How it was built

Nice article about how the TimesMachine was built. See here.

I saw a presentation in California (I think) by Evan Sandhaus, one of the authors of this article, about the TimesMachine. He did a great presentation and explanation of the product and I the idea of using mapping is pretty cool.

Why Apple assembles in China

The answer? Educated people and wages.

See Gruber’s article here. I think that discussion becomes very interesting as wages rise in China.  As Gruber points out the jobs these folks are doing might be defined as ‘menial’ but the jobs take skill. So the Chinese market offers the both skilled labor and until recently, inexpensive labor.

As China’s economy changes and wages become higher low cost assembly will (and is moving) move to other countries. Do other countries offer the same combination that China does or is the ‘savings’ that a company takes partially eaten by training of employees?

More on cabinets from the closet

Been traveling quite a bit the last few weeks and have not made much progress on the closet. I did manage to get a couple of cabinets built to assess the sizing of them within the room.

Getting started cabinets

New closet project

Below is a shot of the closet off the kitchen. Going to build some shelving and the like here starting next week.

The idea is to make this into storage for the kitchen appliances and food as well as a ‘mud room’’ with an area to sit down, hang coats and store shoes.
